Healthy schools week
We did a science experiment and made a rocket. The first time it didn't work so we tried and tried again. When the rocket did launch we were so excited.
We had a key worker competition we had to make a parachute for traction man and drop them from the loft to see which material was the best.
The superheroes take over .........
We have been learning all about superheros this term and they have taken over the classroom. They have been leaving us letters to read and hiding all the superhero toys. We have new problems to solve everyday. In this problem the baddies had frozen the good superheros and we had to solve how to get them out.
The parents came to work with their children to create the story of 'chicken licken'. When we had all created a picture for the huge book we acted it out with our grown ups. It was so much fun.
The past few weeks a cheeky 'Bad Egg' has been coming into our classroom and taking our toys from our pigeon holes. We have not been able to capture him. However on Monday morning we came in to find he had been cracked on the floor trying to steal a child's car. The only clues that had been left were bunny feet!!!!! The search has started for the 'Bunny Bandit'.
Looking at the chicks
World book day 2017
Our book was the very hungry caterpillar. We have been doing lots of fun activities this week related to the book. We even made our own movie (see below). Look at our amazing costumes.
LOST DOG RASCAL PLEASE FIND!!!!!!
This week Miss Bentley's dog Rascal went missing. he was last seen playing in the woods. Miss Bentley has been ever so upset so we set off to find her dog. We made posters that we displayed around school and asked all staff if they had seen him. We described the dog to the staff and told them what he liked e.g. jam on toast. On Thursday an important report came through that he had been seen in the forest eating some food and playing with his bone. Then on Friday we found him, Miss Bentley was so happy. No job is too small for receptions paw patrol.
Some of the children worked together to do a 100 square. They worked well as a team.
Reception's Big Science Day!
We had a big science day where we did lots of experiments. We had to make predictions about what we thought would happen. We also got to meet some animals and talk about their habitats thanks to animals in tuition.
We watched a show for our Christmas workshop about travelling around the world for Christmas. We then did lots of craft activities.
Talk for Baking
Every week a group of children do talk for baking it is a way of learning how to talk instructions.
Room on the Broom
We made a potion using bi-carb, vinegar and food colouring. We talked about what would happen when we mixed it together. Why don't you try it at home.
Schemas, or patterns of play, are seen in many children as they are exploring their world and trying to find out how things work. We plan sessions that take into account the children's schema's to ensure the session is tailored to their learning needs.
Team work broom sticks
We worked as a team to make a broom with enough room for all of us.
Visit from the firemen.
Reading, Writing & Phonics Workshop
Talk for Writing
In reception we use a tool called talk for writing to provide the children with the skills they need to tell and write stories as they move up throughout the school. The children will learn to tell a story using a story map that we create together as a group. We will practise and practise telling the story until the children can confidently do it on their own. This half term we are working on The Little Red Hen. Have a look at our video and you can practise at home.
Now we are confident with the story of the Little Red Hen we have innovated it to make own own stories. We had a showtime morning and performed our stories to the class.
