Journey and Return

On Tuesday 13th of February we had a surprise to start off our English topic on journey and return stories. We went to our circus tent in the forest and was told the story of Leon and the Place Between by a real-life jester (named Bob by the pupils). We had a day of drama, responding to texts through art work and developing our vocabulary; all to inspire the pupil’s writing! One comment from a pupil in Year 5 about being taught English in this way ‘encourages imagination and fun. I LOVED THE POETRY!:)’  Lots more WOWs will be on the menu for all classes… The video of the story-telling can be found on Year 5’s class page (but it is a little dark due to us being in the Yurt!).

Is this what English lessons look like?

Jodrell Bank

Year 5 had an amazing time at Jodrell Bank. The Planetarium was our favourite. We looked at the movement of the stars and how at different times of night we can see different constellations and then again in different seasons. We also learnt about a moon which has water on... Can you remember what it was called?

All the children were extremely well behaved and the staff commented on their exemplary behaviour!!

Manchester Art Gallery

Year 5 participated in a workshop at Manchester Art Gallery to find out about the Ancient Greeks.  We used the exhibits in the gallery to be art detectives and find out about the Greek Gods.  We created our own Greek School and had a debate and democratic vote to decide which God would make the best headteacher.  Watch out Miss Turner!
