Year 5

Welcome to Year 5

Here you will find information about what we will be learning throughout the year including photographs and videos of trips and enrichment activities as they happen.

You will also be able to access information about homework and any key dates from this page.

I hope you have all had a well-earned rest during the 2 weeks of the Whit holidays.

As you will now know, due to a significant increase in the R rate in the area, Tameside has made the decision to delay the phased reopening of schools until the 22nd June. School will still be open, as before, for key worker children. Y5 will continue to work from home. I will continue to upload activities for Y5, here on our webpage and on class dojo, however the planning will follow a slightly different format. I will be uploading a weeks’ worth of work at a time, still focusing on maths, English and reading. Click on the hyper links in the document to access worksheets and activities. Foundation subjects will now be centred on a theme. The planning structure remains very similar to what you have been used to and I will still be responding to and commenting on your portfolio uploads throughout the day.
Thanks again for your continued support and hard work. Keep safe and stay positive, I look forward to seeing more of your amazing work. :)

Key dates

Year 5 Enterprise Day

Year 5 decided to run a lemonade and cake stall for enterprise day. The children phoned local supermarkets and asked for donations for their ingredients. They did an excellent job selling their home made lemonade and cakes and have raised money to buy new guided reading books for school. Fantastic job Year 5, well done! Thanks also to SPAR and all the parents, who supported the children with their enterprise project by donating ingredients and cakes.

Space man visit

Year 5 visited Park Bridge Heritage Centre and the River Medlock to take part in a rivers workshop. Chantelle, a geologist, was our guide for the day. She took us on a guided walk of the river and showed us around the museum. In the afternoon, we carried out river investigations and Chantelle explained about the different types of habitats, insects and rocks that could be found in the River Medlock.
