At Millbrook Primary School, we believe that we must provide an opportunity for early language learning in order to prepare pupils to participate in a rapidly changing world in which work and other activities are increasingly carried out in languages other than English. Learning another language provides a valuable educational, social and cultural experience, laying the foundation for future language learning. We have a duty to provide our children with an understanding of other cultures and languages.
The overall aim for Languages is to enrich learning for all pupils and to ensure that teachers develop confidence and competence to teach Languages effectively. We want Languages to be embedded within the curriculum so that pupils can see links between learning languages and other areas of learning.
We have chosen French as the major modern foreign language that all children will be exposed to because the majority of the Secondary Schools that our pupils move onto offer French. French is also one of the world’s most widely spoken languages.
